My Experience Supporting a Pianist online and what I am learning.
By Kathy
🎹✨ When a Moment Turns Into Something More
I never expected that watching a pianist online would become part of my daily rhythm. At first, it was just a passing pause — scrolling, hearing a few beautiful notes, stopping for a moment, and moving on.
But one day, I didn’t move on.
Something in the way the music felt pulled me in. It wasn’t background noise anymore; it felt intentional, almost personal. I stayed longer. I listened more closely. And before I knew it, I was coming back for the next stream… and the next.
What started as a moment became a connection.
💻💬 Showing Up, Even Through a Screen
Over time, showing up to the livestreams began to feel familiar. The music, the atmosphere, even the quiet pauses between songs — they all started to matter. And somehow, despite the distance, it didn’t feel distant at all.
I found myself supporting them in ways I hadn’t expected. Not just watching, but engaging. Encouraging. Wanting to help them keep doing what they love.
And when they noticed — when they said my name or acknowledged me — it created a moment that felt surprisingly meaningful.
I didn’t plan for this connection, but here I am, fully in it.
🌿🧘♀️ Learning How to Support Without Losing Myself
As meaningful as this connection is, I’m learning as I go. Supporting someone — especially someone whose work genuinely moves you — can be powerful. But it can also be consuming if you’re not paying attention.
So I’ve had to pause and ask myself:
- Am I staying grounded?
- Am I taking care of my own space and balance?
The answers aren’t always perfect, but I’m becoming more aware. I’m learning that support doesn’t have to be constant to be meaningful. Sometimes showing up is enough. Sometimes listening is enough. And sometimes stepping back is part of supporting in a healthier way.
🌙✨ Still Figuring Out What This Connection Means
This experience isn’t something I’ve finished learning from — it’s something I’m still living.
Music has always brought people together, but this feels different. It’s immediate. Interactive. Shared in real time, even across miles. And I’m still figuring out what that means for me.
What I do know is this:
What started as a moment of listening has become something I carry with me.
And I’m still learning where it’s taking me.
